Today is “Spread the Word to End the Word” day!

It is a day to think about that dreaded r-word that is used so flippantly and slips so easily out of so many mouths.  Yes, yes, it is (really WAS) a medically correct term, but it has been switched to the derogatory side and that’s what really stinks.  If you wouldn’t go around calling someone the n-word or a fag, why is the r-word OK?

When you’re tempted to say this word to describe something stupid someone did or to make fun of yourself for being dense at some point during the day, think about this…

The term mentally retarded was originally intended for those with varying intellectual disabilities NOT to be used for someone who does something stupid.  Think about that before you decide to use it.  As I’ve said before. think about NATHAN before you use that term incorrectly or in a derogatory way.
